Having some coupons to redeem, my cousin and aunt asked me to join them for dinner. I haven't been to Pokka since it moved to its current location, so I was looking forward to this dinner. Since there were some dinner sets that seemed like a good deal, we got 2 dinner sets plus a pasta to share. A dinner set came with an appetizer, soup, main, dessert and coffee/tea.
Let me go through what we ordered one by one:0) Complimentary Bread This walnut bread was fresh, warm and soft. There was olive oil and balsamic vinegar that sat on the table for you to use.
1) Appetizer 1: Cream Cheese Scallop Salad This was an interesting salad because it had a kiwi dressing. The dressing was very sweet, and along with the raisins in the salad, this salad was way too sweet for me. However, the sweetness complimented the cubes of cream cheese quite nicely. The scallops were so tiny that you had to look for their existance. This salad was okay.
2) Appetizer 2: Vegetable Roll This veggie roll was okay, but I would have prefered a more crunchy pastry over the soft texture it had. Although the rolls were nothing special, the sweet home made ketchup on the side was pretty nice.
3) Soup: Pumpkin Soup To serve this soup, a waiter brings you an empty bowl, then pours it in front of you. Don't ask me why, but that was what they did. The process was all fancy, but the soup was nothing fancy. It was bland and lacked taste.
4) Avocado Risotto with Fresh Scallop This risotto was topped with scallop sashimi. The scallops were okay, but the rice made the bottom of them warm so I thought that was weird and affected the taste. As for the risotto, since the avocado and risotto had a similar texture, I think it worked in that way, but tastewise, I thought it was a bit strange.
5) Seafood Squid ink Linguini I have a thing for black food. The seafood was nothing special, but the crunch of the sakura shrimp was nice to eat with the pasta. This was a mild dish, but not a bad dish.
6) Beef Short Rib with Fresh Pasta ($188) This was my favourite dish of the night. The pasta had the texture of ramen noodles; they were good and chewy. Then, it was tossed in spicy oil, which was very appetizing and delicious. The beef reminded me of the the BBQ steak my grandpa used to throw on the grill. Although the centre was quite red, the beef was actually really tough.
7) Dessert This dessert of the day was some sort of raspberry mousse cake with a red bean tofu pudding. The cake had a jelly like texture with a lot of cream. The cake was nothing , and I didn't aiculry like it. The pudding also didn't have much taste, but it did have a smooth silky texutre.
8) Coffee This was a nice cup of coffee. I think it was actually the cream that did it though because of the thickness and the sweetness of it. Anyways, the best part of the dinner was this cup of coffee.
Final Verdict:I remember how delicious their beef omelette rice was, but sadly it is no longer on the menu. The price has increased quite a bit since I last visited, but none of the dishes were particularly outstanding. However, visiting this place every once in a while makes me happy.
