Kennedy Town is truly becoming something of a foodie paradise, with a food scene which  transcends the cultural silos of east vs west, and embraces the co-existence of old vs new. We arrived for lunch, and were seated at comfortable table inside a room at the back, although next time, after tasting the food, I will certainly opt for the bar to watch the sushi chef in action. Ordering off the lunch menu (available daily from Tuesday to Sunday), we ordered a 10 piece sushi set, and a hokkaido-don set.

First, let's talk about the sushi set - where you can choose 10 pieces of sushi off an impressive sushi menu, which includes most of your ordinary staples (tuna toro, uni, hamachi etc), as well as the daily specials of fish you don't see often in Hong Kong (kawahaki (amazing and must try), kawada (personally, not a fan), katsuo and numerous others). At a place like this, I think it's always worthwhile to ask for the chef or owners' recommendations, so that you can try something new, and perhaps discover something new that you'll love. Those 10 pieces were great - and while not each piece suited my personal
taste, each of those perfectly sized pieces were crafted with a lot of love.

My friends ordered the Hokkaido-don, which arrived in a sexy, sleek curved bowl, and served with 2 enormous botan shrimp. No complaints here - a bowl filled with all good stuff, and sushi-rice of perfect sweetness, sourness, chewiness, and temperature! I feel compelled to even mention the soy sauce, which, I thought, which was so clean tasting and gave it that extra bit of umami to help the super fresh sashimi show off all its glory (and as I write this, I hope it was not simply Kikkoman, but poured into a nice dish).

As for the service, considering I think we were served mostly by the owner, was pretty good, although its certainly still not the same warm reception as you'll get in a traditional sushi-ya in Japan.  For Kennedy Town, I'd say its good enough.

For dinner, this restaurant only serves a HKD 1300 omakase, which I'm sure is fabulous, but I'm not sure it is such a good value proposition.  However, at lunch, with the average sushi set at about HKD 330, I'll definitely be back for another visit.  Hope you'll make a trip out here, too.
