We saw quite a lot of positive comments for Shanghai Po Po from Openrice, therefore, my family and I decided to go there to have dinner on last Sunday.

I arrived at 7:00 and saw quite a lot of people queuing. After 1 hours of waiting, we finally got a table.

We ordered 6 dishes:
1) Shanghai style cold-cut (ham-like) – The texture is too hard and it is too salty
2) Fish soup with preserved veggies – I found a piece of hair in the soup and requested to change the whole pot. The taste is just so-so.
3) Cabbage with creamy sauce – I always love cabbage and this is the best dishes among all dishes. The Cabbage was cooked just right and the colour of the sauce looked so milky as it supposed to be. The chef finishes the dishes with a hint of Chinese ham which brings extraordinary taste to the dishes.
4) Pan-fried beef bun – This is a chef recommendation, however, it is very disappointing as its surface is not crispy at all and there is no juice in the bun.
5) Dry noodle with deep fried spring onions – It is a very simple dishes. All the flavour is coming from the deep fried spring onions and I think this dishes is above standard.
6) Shanghai style stir-fly noodles with veggies – The taste is okay but it is too oily.

Over all, all dishes are too salty and my mum complained that all dishes are added with MSG.

Although the food is just fair, the interior design is quite good. The walls are decorated with few artist paints and painted with mix and match colour which create a relaxing atmosphere. Besides, the place is crowded with people but not packed. I think the interior design adds some credits to overall rating.

All in all, this is not a traditional Shanghai style restaurant. It is localized by Hong Kong Chef. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who is serious about Shanghai food. I could not say it is a horrible experience but I guess there will be no second time for me. I give it a 1 out of 5.
