Recently there have been many new cafes opening up. All of them focused heavily on design. Base 8 is one of them. Run by the hair salon group Il Colpo, this stylish cafe is located in Fashion Walk. The bottom area also has a salon but it appears to be for VIPs only and you can also purchase hair accessories as well.

I wanted just a coffee so I sat downstairs. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. You order and pay at the cashier and they will provide you with a pager for food pick up.

I ordered a latte ($44). This was ok. Not horrible but not too good. It felt a bit too weak.

I also had waffles. This is the original version ($108). You get a choice of vanilla ice cream or rum raisin. I chose rum raisin. The waffles were disappointing. Yes, it looked amazing.  But the waffles were crunchy and far too sweet. It appeared they coated it with sugar. It was nice you could hold them while you dunked it in to the ice cream but sadly it wasn't a very good waffle. Especially for this price as well.

Everything looked nice from the look of the restaurant to the way food was presented. The service was friendly as well. But sadly it was superficial and the food wasn't too good. Not sure if I'd be back. Probably try the upstairs restaurant before unchecking it off my list.
