I passed by on two consecutive holidays and the street was crowded with visitors. There were hanging red balloons, brand new shops, trendy cafes and luxury apartments on sales; what an East meets West uptown feel! In particularly with Ruby 7, food stands on the street offer free beer or food tasting, big TV for free viewing, it really has the atmosphere. Whoever not been there yet, I recommend you to play a visit.

I am a bread crazy lady. What caught me first was Passion by Gerard Dubois. A piece of crispy oven-to-plate baguette and a rich chocolat chaud was exactly what I want for a Saturday brunch.

Categories such as specialty bread starts at $20, was either plain or favored by herbs, nuts or dry fruits; Danish also starts from $20, infused with jams and/or splashed with rainbow colors; French pastry was like piece of art; colorful macarons; devil chocolate and gelato. There was a long list of crafty and innovative products.

Customer has a choice to enjoy coffee and pastry in an open café style on ground floor. But other than a patisserie and café, Passion serves also dinning menu with pizza and spaghetti. What we need is to climb up a steep indoor stairs to the dining area.

With strong curiosity, I went upstairs and realized that there were also indoor and outdoor sections on 1st floor. The deco was elegant with wooden floor and bright lighting.

I decided to sit at the balcony so I have the view of those interesting red balloon. If you prefer quiet and cozy area, air-condition fine dining section was just around the corner.

Being a self-served café, I ordered my dishes at the cashier and got these pagers for waiting. Once the red light on, my food was ready to pick-up.

Nothing stopped me by ordering Gerard’s signatory chocolat chaud.

This tiny cup of chocolate was rich and creamy. It was not over-sweetened, on the contrary, has a dark chocolate’s bitterness taste. The secret of enjoyment was to put the raspberry into the chocolate. The unbelievable marriage compromised each other. Fruitiness of the raspberry added awakening to the bitterness of chocolat chaud. My palate was pleased with this sweet and sour taste together with choco favor.

My dinning companion ordered a cup of cappuccino. It was nicely decorated with a musicial note made by chocolate powder. I was told that it was smooth and tasteful with no surprise.

It is always healthier to start a meal with a salad.

There were over 10 kinds of salad on the menu; moroccon couscous, orso pasta, bounty of Eden, beetroot with orange segment, Caesar salad & etc. I like to have more greens so Caesar Salad was the best choice. I was then greedy to add on tandoori chicken as topping. There were also choice of salmon and ham or original.

With a mix of fresh, moist and crispy romaine lettuce that dressed with parmesan cheese and cream sauce, the salad was classic and up to standard.

Tandoori chicken brought in some positive surprise. Kashmiri red chili powder gave it a fiery red hue, however, so mild that I considered it not spicy at all. Seasoned with Tandorri masala which has a well balance of spice mix, the chicken was roasted in the right extend. It was juicy, tender with mild aroma but sense of complexity from Indian spice.

Stew, pizza and salad were key choices from dinner menu but that was quite standard. So, this interesting square shaped La Palette “Passion” caught my interest. I picked the pulled pork as toppings.

I was not bored with traditional sour dough pizza which is circular in shape; I was simply amazed by a regular shaped thin dough creation from Passion. Thin pizza crust definitely has less flour so better fit for a light lunch. It ends up with no disappointment.

The crust was hot and crispy when served. It has the thickness as a biscuit whereas the mozzarella cheese layer on top has almost the same dimension. Slice of pulled pork performed well as a pizza topping; mild salty in taste, chewy in texture. Sufficient spice added tempted aroma.

La Palette “Passion” – pulled pork came out crispy at the bottom, soft on the inside and chewy on the top. It is carefully crafted with flavorful. I think it is really good and definitely encore on my next visit.

At last, I have a pear Danish as dessert.

This was another great surprise today. Sweet laminated dough with vanilla custard, topped with fresh cut pears and cinnamon.

It was a typical French pastry with dough in multiple layers, melted in butter, sustained crispy even served cold. Poached pear was fresh, nature and not over-sweetened. It was moist, buttery and flavoursome. This Danish was heavenly, seriously good.

A great day started from a wonderful lunch. Passion, by Gerard Dubois was definitely run his restaurant with Passion. Food was made with quality ingredients with innovation and thoughts. Most important, they were at incredible price as compared with other branded shops. Furthermore, pleasant environment and adequate service added marks. I would definitely be back and I have already done so as said.
