Maxim's is probably one of the biggest food companies in Hong Kong. Owning everything from bakeries to restaurants in all cuisine areas and price ranges, Maxim's is huge. 茶狼 (English name: Cha Long) is a pop up shop inside Hysan Place, serving all sorts of popular Taiwanese style drinks. The shop is here until the middle of March. But not to worry. It seems they will open shops in the future as I saw a post they were hiring for future shops.
The tea menu is in English and Chinese. As it's take away, there is no 10% service charge. They offer fruit based teaand the trendy milk top teas. They also have a nitro brew version and cold brew as well. It seems they are riding on all the tea trends. They also have a limited secrete tea. After you order, there is a 20 minute wait for your tea to be made. And yes, it really took 20 minutes. I looked at my watch.
For serious drinkers, they explain the tea leaves to you and you can even order that particular leaf.
They have bottled teas.
And tea based puddings and cakes.
They even have their mascot, a wolf, out for you to take photos of.
I ordered this: a fruit four seasons tea ($36). All teas only come in one size and that is 200 mL. You can adjust the sweetness and how much ice. I requested regular amount of sugar and ice. I wanted to know ... what was their regular? Apparently, regular ice was just 2 chunks of ice. so that wasn't too bad. Regular sweetness wasn't sweet at all. But you do taste the tea though it wasn't too strong. But the fruit! There was so much stuffed into my cup! I found apple slices, orange slice, strawberries, watermelon and lime. They even provide a thin fork so you can eat the fruit later so it's not wasted. The fruit was fairly sweet though the orange was a bitter and there were seeds in it. Also, perhaps due to so much fruit found in it, there wasn't a lot of tea.
Service was so unenthusiastic. Seriously, did everyone hate their work? No one smiled. Everyone seemed tired and grumpy. Would probably return again before the pop up closes as I live so close and walk by every day. I'm interested in the nitro cha and the puddings. So, yes ... will be back.
