A while ago, boyfriend had Towngas come to his home to fix something. For some reason, they gave him $200 coupons to dine at Flame. But as boyfriend had to go out of town for a while, he feared they might expire so gave them to me to use with a warning. The reviews on Openrice were all upset and it seemed the only people who ate here only paid by the Towngas coupons. He also said they suggest reservations. But as I was going to dine by myself, I decided to try a walk in.I went on a weekday as
I went on a weekday as I had the day off and decided to have lunch there. I arrived around 1:30 PM and though the staff asked if I made a reservation (which I didn't), they still found me a seat. There was plenty of room so he sat me by the window so I could get a lovely view of the ocean.
They have a lunch menu that is in English and Chinese. Menu includes a main and a drink with optional upgrades on drinks. Also, if you want a salad, soup and/or dessert, you have to add money.
I added $58 for a lobster bisque. It arrived with a smiley face on it. The taste was ok. Not much lobster flavor but it wasn't straight tomato soup as well.
It also came with a warm bun that was soft and chewy. It was fairly good.
I ordered the glazed smoked duck breast, vegetable, potato, Balsamic reduction ($118) as my main course. It arrived in a nicely plated style. The plate was even kept hot! Taste? It tasted pretty good though the skin on the duck wasn't rendered properly so it was still super fat but over all, it was pretty good. The addition of the sweet balsamic reduction went well with the duck.
Overall, the whole lunch was pretty decent. The food tasted fine. Price range is comparative to some places in Tsim Sha Tsui area that serve western fare. Service wasn't so terrible. Yes, they weren't enthusiastic about their work but at least they arrived promptly when you needed them. And I got a sea view seat which was pretty good! I don't know why people who made reservations or purposely asked for it complained they didn't. Maybe I didn't request an they brought me to an ocean view seat? I don't know? But one thing is for sure ... every one does pay with the Towngas voucher. EVERY SINGLE PERSON. So, I'd suggest if Towngas provides you with one, it's worth going.
