Finally tried out Alive Eatery, a cafe located in Sham Shui Po opened by the founders of Alive Food Co. This small but stylish cafe features a range of Mediterranean-inspired dishes that focuses on the use of healthy and wholesome ingredients. Perfect place for a relaxing weekend brunch.Pic 1️⃣: Spanish Iberico Pork Taco with Homemade Tortilla, served with Pico de gallo, guasacaca sauce with Mexican black bean salad on the side - $95 hkd 🌮 — Pretty good tacos but portion size was a bit small. — Pretty good tacos but portion size was a bit small. The Ibérico pork was cooked perfectly allowing the meat to stay tender, also very well seasoned and flavourful. The homemade tortillas need a special mention here, these were so soft and had an intense corn flavour to them which I loved. They were also served warm and held all the filling nicely. The chopped tomatoes were super fresh, and went well with all the sauces. The Mexican black bean salad was a great accompaniment, it had a good level of acidity to it and will definitely fill you up. Really enjoyed the good balance of flavours from this dish.
Pic 2️⃣: Pan Seared Mediterranean Seabass with sautéed barley, sweet potato chips, green mojo sauce - $132 🐟
— Beautifully presented but I was slightly underwhelmed by the fish. The seabass we were served was so thin and mostly skin, meaning it had quite a strong fishy taste to it. However, it was pan seared nicely and wasn’t overly dry despite it being so thin. The seabass didn’t have much seasoning whilst the sautéed barley was way too salty. (I chose to combine the two to achieve a balance 😅) The sautéed barley was actually really flavourful, and accompanied the fish so well but it’s simply too salty. I really liked the idea of adding sweet potato chips but these were not great. Tasted stale and the chips weren’t crunchy at all. The green mojo sauce was tasty, fragrant and added a bit of acidity to the dish. Think the dish has a lot of potential if all the elements were a bit more polished.
📍Ambiance: seats are limited, so come here early to avoid the queues, small but comfortable interior
