Sometimes lunch dates are really random. A friend of mine got a sudden appointment in Admiralty and coincidently I wasn’t planning to go elsewhere for lunch. I didn’t realize this is a NEW restaurant as it looks similar all the time. After having a glimpse on openrice, I realized that the name changed!

Adopting similar concepts in New York City and Chicago, Café MET apparently targets at those who looks for a quick lunch in warm, high energy surroundings. There are mainly two counters – a noodle bar and a salad bar. The thing in common is that food served in both bars is made-to-order. Another minor part is readily made sandwiches.

1) Noodle bar

You may get your personal blend of noodles with varying amount of toppings - 1 or 2 items at $75, 3 items at $85, 4 items at $95, and $12 extra for any additional ones. My friend chose 3 toppings.

2) Salad Bar

Basically there are two kinds of salad base to choose from - mesclun mix or crisp romaine. Then the price varies with the amount of toppings chosen - 3, being the basic, at $70, 4 at $80 and 5 at $90.

I chose 3 toppings ($70) plus half an avocado (+$18). The staff immediately helped me mix all the ingredients in a big alumnium bowl.

3) Sandwiches & others

In case you are not in the mood of eating much, grabbing sandwiches and soft drinks may be a good choice.

My dish:

Once it was done, the staff put my dish on the tray and I queued for the cashier.

Half an avocado wasn't that big, in fact not really justifying the $18 cost. It was out of my impulse to add avocado only. Romain leaves were fresh and really crispy.

My friend's noodle :
Not sure if it tastes good, as he only expressed "hmmm ok la" (apparently chinglish!)

In general, Cafe MET is a place where you can grab fast and custom-made food. Quality of salad and noodles are OK but not really amazing. It will be my alternative if queues are too long to wait for in other restaurants in the Pacific Place.
