I went to Al Dente with my best friend tonight for her Birthday.I have always been wanting to eat at this Restaurant, yet, this restaurant is ALWAYS booked out. I have always been wanting to eat at this Restaurant, yet, this restaurant is ALWAYS booked out. Everytime I walked pass Al Dente, it was always packed. I tried to reserve for a table for at least 3 times in the past 2 weeks, but was always being rejected. But finally, I made it - I had a really great time at Al Dente tonight.
The restaurant is tiny, yet the atmosphere was unexpectedly comfortable. My friend and I ordered the Al Dente Pasta and Salmon Pizza as our mains tonight.
Contrary to my experience at Isola @ IFC, which was the most shitty Italian I have ever eaten in my life, the food at Al Dente was reasonably yummy. I shall say, I am never a big fans of Italian food (i.e. pastas nor pizzas), yet, I think the mains I had tonight was quite nice.
Pasta - The pasty was quite yummy. It was not that tasty, but at the same time, it is no where to be described as tasteless. I think their pasta really worths trying. I saw 3 Spaghetti Bolognaises walked pass me tonight, and they looked very delicious. People, should any of you go to Al Dente, please try the Bolognaise and let me know whether it is yummy or not.
Pizza - My god!! I really enjoyed the pizza. It was very very yummy and the ingredients just match perfectly. It's thinly crusted. This pizza was SO MUCH BETTER that what I had at Isola the other night, at least you get to chew and taste it properly. I really really liked it.
The sizes of both the pasta and pizza were extremely reasonable for the price.
Dessert - We then ordered a banana dessert after finishing our mains. Frankly, I am a big fans of desserts, yet the dessert menu at Al Dente was quite disappointing. From my memory, there were only 4 choices for dessert (the usual Tiramisu, Cheese Cake, Choco Pudding...). So we in the end picked the banana thingy as it seemed to have been distinguished from other desserts.
I didn't really like the dessert. I think it was plainly too sweet and the tastes didn't really match.
Coffee - I love coffees. I order a cappacinno after having the dessert. I thought the coffee itself was actually ok (just OK, but defintitely better than PCC and Starbucks). However, I was a little bit amazed by the fact that Al Dente didn't have skim milk for serving.
I suggest that should you go to Al Dente at some time, I'd highly recommend their pastas, pizzas and coffees.
