Have never ever posted reviews of any sorts online before but thought my last experience at An Nam was disappointing enough to give in my first time..Been to the place many times before and find it always quiet pleasant. However, could significantly starting to feel the food quality is slipping from the last 2 times, but still not to the point to keep me completely away from it as it is rare to find a vietnamese place in Hong Kong comes with a good ambience and polish feel. So it will still come
Been to the place many times before and find it always quiet pleasant. However, could significantly starting to feel the food quality is slipping from the last 2 times, but still not to the point to keep me completely away from it as it is rare to find a vietnamese place in Hong Kong comes with a good ambience and polish feel. So it will still comes to mind when wandering in the area with no clue what to eat which was the case for this time..
we initially wanted to order the fried marble goby but was told that they only got a rather big one left in house which would cost more than the menu price, in other words, market price. Considering we are a table of 2 and still wanna have other plates so just gave up on the idea. Recommended by an Southeast Asian waitress (who was the most initiative among the serving staff this evening btw), we went for the jumbo prawns in clay pot instead. Definitely regret on that one..the meat of the prawns is mouldy, simply not right, and you just won't expect to be getting seafood in that kind of quality in any restaurants with standard. Sure I am aware that it is usual for restaurants to use frozen jumbo prawns considering this is not a seafood specialist, but something with this kind of texture is simply not ok for me anywhere. As for the sauce, it is bland, watery and nothing else. Lets just say it is like something cooked by someone with no taste bud..
The biggest red card is given to the grilled pork balls, cannot believe it was still raw in the center! Thank god I am someone who is used to break her food apart on plate before eating, who knows how sick one could get from this raw pork. It is absolutely unacceptable to serve raw white meat in any restaurants, in fact, this is definitely the first time I came across such thing and didn't expect it to happen here really..
Everything just so sloppy and below average this evening. Considering its above average price level for vietnamese cusine, this is rather embarassing.. One thing I am sure is that I won't be returning. It is such a shame to see An Nam in becoming yet another living-the-moment place that with no effort put into maintaining it.
