Still on the waitlist to visit Taiwan, so we came here to satisfy our cravings for Taiwanese feast. Definitely a MUST-TRY: the braised pork belly (焢肉), extremely tender and the fat layer melted in your mouth, the sweet-savoury sauce is deeply infused and marinated into every inch of the softly braised pork belly. It’s just perfect.

The minced pork sauce on rice is served in huge portion, even when we came for a tea set. Very fulfilling! The ultimate merit is the free-flow pickles, you can add as much as you wish!

Another highlight: the braised pork belly in steamed bun (刈包). This was DONE RIGHT, with pickles, juice from the pork belly, cilantro, crushed peanuts and whatnots. The bun was pillowy and not soggy. Thumb up for this.

The mala spicy dry mixed noodles with minced pork sauce is equally good, but it’s very saucy so it suited heavy tasters like me. Sides were deep fried sweet potato mochi- Mrs Golden-tongued liked it a lot; and mala duck blood with fermented black tofu. Tea set came with seaweed soup with Taiwanese pork balls, definitely a comfort bowl to go with the food.

Their drink menu offers a variety of Taiwanese beverages. We picked taro milk tea with bobas; original Taiwanese milk tea; and cheese milk foam on roasty oolong tea. All of these three were very good, and I personally liked the savoury cheese foam on my tea the most.

The egg pancakes with pork floss and pickles were drizzled with a sweet savoury glaze, the stuffing is saltier than I thought, so make sure to drink more milk tea when you take it in.

Of course we also need a dessert to wrap up our visit to PEI. This bowl of assorted taro balls/ glass jellies/ mashed taro was moderately sweet with authentic taste. The glass jellies were sliced and easy to eat, mashed taro is a textural mixture of smooth and diced parts, and the taro balls were very chewy and fresh!

A good ending to our Taipei trip (within Hong Kong).
