Being the sad little loner that I am I had to eat Valentine’s dinner with my parents Talk about being a major third wheel. We went out fairly late that night without any plans, so we decided to drive around the Kam Tin area to look for a nicER restaurant. Unfortunately, not planning ahead didn’t work out well for us and it took us more than half an hour to find a restaurant that was not already full and does not force you to order their unreasonably priced Valentine’s Day special menu. That’s h
The restaurant was quite packed but we did manage to get a table fairly soon. This place is huge and surprisingly very fancy looking! We ordered a Pineapple Pork Floss Fried Rice to start - -I hate it when restaurants serve fried rice in hollowed-out pineapples/coconuts because A) the portion is usually smaller and B) I have a feeling that they reuse the fruit over and over again
-The fried rice was really weird. It was very sweet and mushy, and worst of all there were pieces of raisins in it!! ewww! (Yes, I am biased)
-The only redeeming thing about this dish was the pork floss piled on top of the rice. You can’t go wrong with pork floss since it’s packaged food = =
Next was a Pomelo Salad which I thought was too small for the price (it was like $80 or something?) -The overall texture was still crunchy which I guess is a good thing since it’s fresher?
-The dressing was way too sweet though..
-They added onions into the mix but I think they overdid it – the onion taste was way too strong
-I like how they added some minced meat into it though, as it cuts away some of the other strong flavours
On the way to our table we saw that every table had a fish hot pot bubbling away, so we decided to order that too -The fish was cooked just right – tender and silky.
-They give us some extra broth on the side for refilling. The broth was very sour when I first tasted it but over time the vinegar boils away and the broth becomes a lot tastier!
-I like the veggies on top but I thought they were cut a little too thick, and were hard to cook through
I forgot how much our bill was, but it was definitely expensive. I really wouldn’t recommend this place for the food, but I guess if you live in the area and need to eat at a restaurant with nice ambience then you can give it a try..
