Second time round, waited a total of 0 minutes. This place is definitely on the pecking order for hungry residents of mid levels when they wake up on the weekend. Every man and his dog is here (so it seemed). Having been rejected at 11am on a previous attempt, my second attempt at a similar time proved fruitful.First impressions, the staff were very well organised. First impressions, the staff were very well organised. Everything went like clockwork, which is surprise in this neighbourhood given the often ridiculously high prices that are charged. We were given a menu and served water promptly (although on request, but upon reflection it was in my haste I hadn't let the waiter give us the menu yet).
The layout of this place is awesome, exactly what is needed in HK. The spacing inside is sufficiently separate to allow privacy and with the high ceilings and open front and back, customers do feel like they are in another city. There are bar stools, tables, street facing stools, the lot.
For mine the most disappointing thing was the food and this criticism is really coming at a stretch because there really wasn't anything wront with it. It just wasn't original. The menu was not very inspiring. Ok, granted that every restaurant must serve some incarnation of Eggs benedict with a variety of sides (most notably smoked salmon in HK) but I was at least hoping for some creativity given the popularity of this restaurant. Alas, I resigned to ordering an omlette, which was very tasty but insufficient to satisfy. The eggs were a bit dry in all it was a very flavoursome dish.
A big thumbs up does go to the coffee. A well prepared coffee always gets high marks in my book. Temperature was right, used good milk, beans were fresh and flavour was velvety. A far cry from some other baristas that attempt to make coffee here. All in all, I would come back. Now the question is given the popularity of this place, would you? When I went it was still a full house, just fortune favoured me and I happened to get a seat. If you are prepared to wait then it is worth it. If you get lucky then this place is definitely worth stopping by. It seems to me to be more the place to be seen (especially those with dogs) than it is for the food. But then again, each to their own, not every place needs to serve something decent to attract crowds.
