I just took my team out for lunch at Mano as a pre-Christmas treat. The service was good and we were seated right away. Based on my previous 3 visits (last year) I felt confident that the restaurant would provide good food at a reasonable price in a high end environment and the location is very close to our office, so I thought it would be a suitable choice to give my staff a treat in return for their year's good work. Unfortunately the menu is completely different to how is used to be and in ef
For appetisers we ordered the endive salad and the egg and mushroom thing... I'm not even sure what it was. The egg and mushroom thing looked a bit like custard pudding, but actually didn't taste bad. The salad was not that tasty and although we were assured upon leaving that all ingredients are of the highest quality and mostly imported I have to say that the tiny bits of cheese and ham in that salad looked of dubious quality - I would even think of describing the mystery meat as 'luncheon meat' rather than anything high quality.
Mains were ok. One colleague ordered the pulled pork burgers. She received 2 very small burgers and a side of fries. The rest of us ordered fish dishes and decided to order a side of fries as the portions were so small it was clear that (having not finished the unappetising appetisers) we would be hungry without some carbs on the side. The colleague who ordered the pulled pork only ate one bun, so I can only imagine it was not that delicious. The fish was all eaten by all and although it was fairly tasty it was clear when the plates arrived that the food had been standing in the kitchen for some time as a light skin had started to form on the sauce that came with the mackerel.
Once it came to dessert we decided not to bother staying since based on the taste and size of the portions presented thus far we did not feel confident that the dessert would be that satisfying. What is more, the descriptions of the dessert on the menu left a lot to the imagination, for example 'FIG - black, sollies, tomato, ginger' - no idea what to expect. I'm a native English speaker and I don't understand. Instead we decided to skip across the street to Wellcome for Haagen Dasz ice creams for a fraction of the price of what would probably have been a tiny dessert.
I won't go back I'm afraid.
