First thought when I stepped into MANA – “Hipster”. MANA’s menu is described as “Vegetarian Vegan Organic Local Gluten-Free Eco-Friendly Community”. Seriously, how much more hipster could it get?! The interior of the restaurant is very interesting and has a middle Eastern theme. It was fairly hot that day so I decided not to get anything warm. Items are fairly expensive (I suppose from the rent and their determination to serve organic ingredients). I ordered a 1/2 Flat (Organic oven-baked flatbread) called MANA! Prana. Fillings include Portobello Mushroom, Slow Dried Tomato, Cucumber, Fresh Sprouts & Mint.
I figured that the half flatbread would be quite small (and I was right) so I also got a side of fries to share with my friend. Hand-cut & tossed in sea salt, with a ‘Garlicnaise’ dip (Garlic aioli?)

-The fries were a bit soggy & greasy, but I really liked the use of larger sea salt crystals (personal preference). Unfortunately clumsy ol’ me spilled the fries on the table so I lost a lot of the salt

-The Garlicaise was pretty garlicky which is fantastic =) I usually don’t like white sauces
-I thought the flatbread was a bit dry and thick, especially in comparison with the fillings. I would have preferred more fillings for this kind of flatbread to achieve a higher “juice ratio” so the wrap isn’t as dry
-The fillings were fresh and I could tell they were organic. I especially liked the sundried tomatoes which added a lot of flavour

It was a sunny day so sitting on their semi-patio was quite enjoyable UNTIL water started to drip down from nowhere and we had to move to the back of the restaurant to eat. Standing in a narrow alley next to tens of garbage cans wasn’t that pleasant for me, but I guess this is part of the ‘community’ experience they are trying to promote
lol
Also I found that most of their customers were foreigners, and in fact quite a few of them looked like tourists. I guess this whole vegan/organic/local fad hasn’t caught on in HK yet.
