A few days ago, I was in Wan Chai on a Sunday afternoon and I was hungry. It was 3pm so I decided to go to Sushi Express, as there would probably not be any queues. Every plate costs 8 HKD and you have one hour to eat, pay and leave. Green tea is free and you can just start eating as soon as you sit down. I don’t know if you could actually order any additional dishes, because I didn’t see a menu and also the waiters were just cleaning away plates, but not talking to me.

I ate salmon sashimi and sushi and then tried some of the white fish and other plates that I could not recognise. I liked that Sushi Express offered additional options than just the typical tuna, salmon and shrimp and the fish seemed to be of fair quality, given the affordable price.

The belt was being refilled regularly and there were a number of diners at 3pm on a Sunday – it was a quick late lunch for me, and I’ve got nothing to complain. It is not your ultimate sushi experience, but for a quick and cheap bite, it is definitely worth considering – if you are walking past it.

Will I go there again? Yes, but only if I’m close by and in the need of a quick bite. I would not go with friends or on a date night, as the place is just a cheap & cheerful sushi conveyor belt restaurant and there are lots more better (but also more expensive) sushi places around Wan Chai.
