I've been to all the Al Dente outlets, especially the long standing restaurant in Mid-Levels and have always liked the portion size and quality of the food. Unfortunately a restaurant is only as good as your last experience! And I have to say my last experience, at the TST branch was not good!We were quite a big party (16 of us) split over 2 tables and we all ordered a variety of food, the most popular being the ribeye steak. We were quite a big party (16 of us) split over 2 tables and we all ordered a variety of food, the most popular being the ribeye steak. One table was served over an hour before the other table. The antipasta dishes and lamb main courses were quite good, but some of the steak dishes were well below par. In fact, my ribeye steak (which arrived 1.5 hours after I ordered it) was as thin as the beef used in pho or hotpot. Ridiculous. I regret not taking a photo of this because it was the thinnest steak I have ever had in my life and no way a 10 oz piece of meat, at a guess I would say 3 or 4 oz. I obviously complained and eventually when the manager re-appeared, he knew the quality of their steak was poor and hence made himself unavailable for a big part of the dinner service, he comped my meal to his credit.
As the name suggests Al Dente is Italian, stick to the pasta, antipasta and lamb dishes here. Do not order the steak!
Other Info. :
The waitresses were friendly but the manager is out of his depth. His job is to make sure customers are happy and also make sure the quality of the food reaching diners is high and of a minimum standard.
