Hello everyone, it's a rainy day today and I have stumbled upon the Ocean Empire, a lovely congee shop in Meifoo. I expected lots from the name of this shop, and what I got from it is nothing short of my expectations.I ordered a bowl of Ocean Empire Congee, a chicken rice, and fried you tiao. For the congee, it definitely lived up to its name as the signiture dish of the chef. The congee is soft(綿)without being too soggy. It's like eating fluffy clouds with the seafood of shrimps and fish and squid in the cloud. This dish is the emperor of the Ocean Empire and is available for just $35. This is a deal to be had. Or as you guys call it 價廉物美.
Now for the fried youtiao. At first glance, this is just a piece of fried dough chopped into small pieces, I have no idea why you guys like it so much. So, like any idiot, I decided to order it. It was worth the risk of my $10. The dough tasted like crunchy fries from mcdonalds, whilst not being very salty, unlike mcdonalds fries you do not have to drink a resorvoir of water after you eat it. I am kinda pissed that no one told me it tasted this good, I should have ordered it years ago.
This is the chicken rice. If I had to choose which to rank last in this magnificent restaurant, this, unfortunately, is my pick(sorry chicken, you will forever be remembered). The reason this is last is not because it tasted terrible, but because it contains my worst enemy:Salt. If all the dishes were elements of the Ocean, this would be the salt that makes Ocean saline. A great stablizer and helps balances life, but not the best in taste. If you homies like salty foods, then look no further than this dish. Only those who have acheived level 3 in salt eating should eat this. Personally, I will need to level up.
Overall, this restaurant did live up to its name as the Ocean Empire. 100% would reconmend, just be cautious of the saline waters of the ocean and you'd be fine.
