I actually frequent Pak Kee about once a week...and have tried almost all their products. This and St Lolan are my fave bakeries in the area due to its dirt cheap price and really tasty products. On a recent trip to Hoover in Kln city, I've decided that Pak Kee's egg tart ($2.5) is actually much better. Hardly ever over-done, with a very crisp puff pastry which is void of extra oil/lard. The best bit however, is their custard. It is very smooth and creamy and has the right consistency and right

On a recent trip to Hoover in Kln city, I've decided that Pak Kee's egg tart ($2.5) is actually much better. Hardly ever over-done, with a very crisp puff pastry which is void of extra oil/lard. The best bit however, is their custard. It is very smooth and creamy and has the right consistency and right sweetness.
Their paper lined sponge cake($3.5) was also better. It is large, crazy-light and slightly eggy.
The Sesame bread ($6/loaf) actually was not all looks and had a distinct taste of black sesame, unlike other versions i have tried.
However, the cheesecake ($7) was not quite good. They have mastered the taste and creaminess of the japanese soft sponge cheesecake, but I think when they were baking it some water got through because the bottom was actually wet . Perhaps this was a one-off mistake, but since I haven't had the urge to try it again.
All in all a very good bakery =)
