Without the reknowned chocolate fondue and make-it-yourself hot chocolate from Chocolux on Peel Street, Chocolux Cafe in turn offers a little sweet pit-stop for the busy urbanites around.

Been here once for its Chocolate Egg Tart (I've written this in a previous review http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=1913106), now it's time to try something else.

It's quite a wonder to me that Chocolux's crepes could actually be one of its specialties. The crepe was made to precision, with crispy edges yet paper thin but stretchy on the inside. The chicken & guacamole (avocado, potato, tomato) was on the dry side though, the up side was that the whole thing was actually quite filling as a meal.

I used the coupon printed off Chocolux's website to enjoy a free Truffle (original price ($12). I'd say it was quite a disappointment as the chocolate was rather homogeneous, lacking the usual “crisp outside but soft inside” expected of a chocolate truffle. Taste was not bad, but should I be expecting more from a chocolate shop's chocolates?

I decided to give Chocolux to redeem itself by getting a hot chocolate. [Tall Bitter-sweet 72% Hot Chocolate ($29)] Now this is the way to go. Rich and velvety smooth, it was full of chocolate-ness without being sickly sticky on your teeth. The flavour was rather straightforward, so if you want some real “bittersweet” character from it, go somewhere else or try to ask the lady to put less sugar in it. (I haven't tried, but my chocolate was still as bit too sweet for me...I wasn't so much of a 甜魔 after all.)
