I visited London recently and had had Turkish food there. They were very good food and inexpensive, so therefore I might try them in Hong Kong.I patronized TAVA (Turkish & Mediterranean Cuisine) on 18 July 2012 with my wife in the evening. I ordered 1 Double Meze Plate, which was starter with 2 yogurt, one with eggplant and one with cucumber served with Arabic bread. 2 lamb Shish Kebab (with rice and vegetable) as the main course, 1 portion of Green Salad, 1 Turkish beer and 1 lemonade. I patronized TAVA (Turkish & Mediterranean Cuisine) on 18 July 2012 with my wife in the evening. The Meze Plate was OK, but the cucumber yogurt and the eggplant yogurt were a bit watery. When we finished the starter and ate most of the Arabic bread with yogurt, we were 40% full already. The EFES beer was a bit light in taste but was quite good. Now comes the lamb Shish Kebab. The Kebab consists of 3 skewers of 4 lamb cubes each. The portion was sufficient for adult. But the downside was that the lamb had been pre-cooked and left cold for quite some time and when ordered TAVA re-heated them. It rendered the lamb meat dry and not juicy, which kills the food and its favour. This was where TAVA lost its score. The rice was plain steam rice and not Mediterranean type of rice, which I had expected otherwise to have flavour. Though not advertised, perhaps TAVA served also fusion food (fusion with Chinese plain boiled rice) and Chinese type of boiled vegetable.
When I settled the bill with Union Pay credit card, the waiter said it was not accepted. I then pointed to the glass panel at the restaurant door, which displayed Union Pay card sign. The waiter then said the terminal for Union Pay card transaction was not working. I gave the waiter the benefit of doubt. Any one wishing to settle the bill with Union Pay credit card should beware of this.
The bill with 10% service charge came to HK$442.00, which was similar to what I paid for Turkish dinner in London. But bear in mind that dinner in the UK attracted 20% VAT, while Hong Kong has no VAT.
All in all, I am unable to recommend the Lamb Shish Kebab to any one.
