So I came here after a few too many drinks in Soho and decided to grab some food before I caught a cab in Pedder St. Originally I wanted some post drinking food at Tsui Wah (翠華) but I go there so often I thought Ebeneezer's would be a nice change of pace. I personally am a big fan of spicy food. Environment: The place is pretty small and cramped. Total sitting area is a little over 100 square feet. Environment: The place is pretty small and cramped. Total sitting area is a little over 100 square feet. Luckily at 1AM on a early weeknight it wasn't packed so I got my own table.
Service: It's a fast food place so there wasn't so much 'service' per say. The guys behind the counter were decent. At one point he forgot my water (didn't realize that until I started eating) so I went back to ask and he immediately apologized.
Now onto the food. Honestly, I think in my buzzed stated I ordered way too much food. So here's what I ordered:
Lamb Vindaloo - Came in a little black container (almost frozen dinner like) which I didn't find particularly appetizing but overall I thought this was quite satisfying. Never really though spicy food would hit the spot after a night of drinking but it really did! If we really had to be critical I would say the lamb wasn't all that tender and IMHO there wasn't enough lamb. By the time I finished the lamb I still had 1/2 of my rice left. The sauce I thought had a nice kick (spice wise) and hit the spot for me. Overall it was a pretty decent dish.
Döner (Lamb) Kabab - Couldn't come here without trying one of their signature kababs. My honest opinion is it is decent but a little disappointing. The spiciness of the lamb (I order extra spicy) was complemented well by the creaminess of the yogurt sauce. The shredded lettuce also provided a nice crunch and cool sensation. The lamb....was decent. Not as tender and juicy as I would have liked. My major gripe was the the pita wrap. The pita bread felt quite dry. If you open the foil wrap you'll notice the kabab is not wrapped quite properly and it kind of falls apart (so it becomes messy to eat). When you try to wrap it up again the bread kind of breaks (since it's a little on the dry side). Overall...I guess decent but as I said a little disappointing.
All in all I thought Ebeneezer's was decent as a late night spot but maybe their other locations are better since there is more room to sit. Next time I come back I think I'll stick to the curries and biryani.
