I received an email from Phoenix Sweets for me to get two free cupcakes to celebrate the opening of their new Causeway Bay shop.

Phoneix Sweets original shop location is in PMQ and I had tried their super pretty cookies. Before that they were an online shop that focused on made to order cakes and other baked goods like cookies and cupcakes. Now, they have a smaller shop located in Causeway Bay's Fashion Walk. Location is on ground level, right at the elevator leading to Log On. It is more like a take away counter than an actual walk in shop like PMQ. However, the same lady like pastel colors are used with a lovely display of cookies, cupcakes and cakes for all the passersby to see.

I chose two cupcakes. Rose Earl Gray and Blue Berries. It was packed in a pretty pastel green box that held my cupcakes securely. The staff asked if I needed forks and napkins but I said it was ok as I was taking them home and I have forks.

Rose Earl Gray Cupcake ($40). This smelled wonderful. I could smell the scent of rose. A few sprinkles of dried rose petals were scattered on top of the rose flavored buttercream. The buttercream was smooth and rich without being too sweet.

Cupcake was Earl Gray and there was an actual strong taste of the tea. The only thing was the cupcake was a bit dense and not moist enough.

Blue berries cupcake ($40). This didn't smell as strong as the rose Earl Gray one. Two blue berries were topped on the blueberry buttercream. Buttercream was smooth and creamy. However, not much blueberry flavor could be tasted.

Cupcake base was vanilla. This fared better than the Earl Gray. It was less dense and a lot more moist. A strong vanilla flavor came through. This was a pretty good vanilla cupcake.

I loved how they used pretty cupcake paper to further enhance the decoration of the cupcake. So many cupcake places in Hong Kong use the plain white cupcake paper. Phoneix Sweets really work on packaging the cupcakes to make them pretty. Though not the best cupcakes in town, they  sure are the prettiest cupcakes in town. Would probably return for those days when I want a sweet treat for myself.
