Boyfriend and I were in the Quarry Bay area for the farmers market nearby but it started to rain. So, we ducked into here for lunch. Bistro Lane seemed nice and it appeared to be a cafe but it served Taiwanese food.

When we arrived, it was  after 2 PM but the staff at first gave us the lunch set menu. When we asked for the tea set menu (as that was what was posted outside the restaurant), the staff grumpily said it starts at 2 PM. Where we promptly showed our watches to state it was already after 2.  Thus, she gave us the afternoon tea set menu. Menu is in English and Chinese (except for the snacks which was in Chinese only). There is no 10% service charge. Each comes with a paper cup of luo hon guo tea.

Bistro Lane Style Deep Fried Chicken in Boat  at Soup Noodles ($44). I chose this as I didn't know boyfriends as pretty much the same thing. The noodles first of all ... were soggy. Like seriously overcooked. I truly disliked it. The fried chicken had a strong savory seasoning that I liked. It was too bad the meat was a bit dried out and super oily. Otherwise the seasoning they used for the coating was delicious.

Bistro Lane Style Deep Fried Pork Belly in Boat Soup Noodles  ($46). I really disliked boyfriend's deep fried pork belly. It was just this big chunk of fat, deep fried. It did have the same coating as the chicken. But deep frying pork belly was just a bit too much for me. Even boyfriend thought he had somehow crossed a line he thought he'd never cross.

Food wasn't that great though the seasoning they use for the coating was great. But not enough for me to return. Service was extremely grumpy. I guess I would be too if I had to be the waitress, cashier, front of staff, clean tables AND stuff take away boxes into online dining platform bags all by myself.
