Aside from the name Hunter & The Chase that no doubt associates with the tradition of wildlife hunting, which initially rang a few alarms of mild protest and sympathy as we were animal lovers, we were delighted to find this new dining spot that we’ll surely be returning frequently (and to clarify, there really is nothing on the menu that isn’t considered a typical meat or seafood to consume).The food offering is a good balance of all-time favorites and the trendy, with interesting combinations o
The food offering is a good balance of all-time favorites and the trendy, with interesting combinations of condiments. Take, for example, miso butter poached lobster with salmon roe and shiso, or stuffed zucchini flowers with ricotta, mint and yellow tomato confit. Seafood lovers would be satisfied as well: geoduck sashimi, Hokkaido scallop, crab, Spanish octopus and sea urchin were all spotted. Serious grilled steaks are also on offer: bone-in, rib-eye, striploin, hanger, tomahawk….you name it.
Service was accommodating and while the restaurant filled up quickly as the evening rolled on, seating was spacious so we were able to converse comfortably against a humming backdrop of excited Friday night diners. We returned the next morning for brunch, but that’ll be a separate review.
Food Rundown
Seasonal oysters, $290
Oysters sadly came with a fishy odor and tasted off and musty.
Spanish Octopus, ancho chili glazed, jicama salad, $228
Amazingly tender octopus arm. I do order octopus whenever I can see it on a menu, but this is still one of the best I’ve had lately. Instead of grilling the flesh so hard that the suckers become crispy and hard, the rind and suckers are completely a melt-in-your-mouth kind of texture here. If I had to grade this, it would be an A.
Grilled USDA Prime Steak, Striploin, $308
The striploin came with delicate texture and a strong beefy flavor. It was a good balance of tenderness and chewiness. An excellent grill.
