It was a Sunday around 13:00 and I was able to be seated immediately. The waitress was very friendly and spoke just enough English to help me order because they had no English menu. The waitress was very friendly and spoke just enough English to help me order because they had no English menu. However, I knew what I wanted before I went so that helped. I got char siu and rice then an order of soy sauce pigeon.
The dishes came out about 5 minutes later.
Char siu: The char siu was a little drier than I typically like. However, I did enjoy how it was less sweet than most char siu dishes I have had, but it had a greater roast meat flavor than others which was a plus. Also my dish had a lot of end pieces that tasted more like a “dried” meat than actual char siu so that was a little disappointing.
Soy sauce pigeon: Now, this was the star of the meal. It was also my first time having had pigeon. I’d say it is like a cross between chicken and duck. It is very lean and packed with meat, yet it’s dark meat and has a very juicy and tender texture to it. The soy sauce glaze is slightly sweet, salty, and full of umami flavor. It’s the first thing you will taste in this dish, but then the pigeon will start to overtake the meal. Absolutely phenomenal, but again I say this having nothing to compare it to.
The whole staff was very friendly. Again nobody spoke much English, just the basics which is enough. There are no English menus.
Overall: 8.7/10
