Went to Quarry Bay on a Sunday thinking the Tong Chong Street Market was there. But apparently, it's only on weekdays. A bit hungry, we found 樓下冰室 open. A cha chan teng with a very retro decor that seemed to focus on tomato based soup noodles.Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. Boyfriend ordered lunch set which was a tomato soup based macaroni with char siu, scrambled egg and toast ($48). The char siu was ok but the soup! The soup had a rich tomato flavor. It was thick and sweet.
The egg was fluffy. Not too overcooked. The toast was ok. It lacked butter.
I ordered the tea set of a soy sauce chicken drumstick and mixed fruit and corn salad ($42). The soy sauce chicken leg was delicious. The meat was juicy. The marinade was not too salty but full of flavor.
The salad was in a plastic container. This took me by surprise as it seemed more like something ready for take away. But the salad was pretty good. Not watery or with so much mayo it was swimming in it. There was a lot of crunchy apples as well.
The food was pretty decent. Place was clean. Would probably return if in the area.
