Chances came by as I was walking along the familiar street this afternoon, looking for something to equip my camera with. Perhaps it was because of its genre as a dessert, after-lunch cafe that had spared it from the mercy of the hungry crowds hunting for lunch, preserving some tranquility in the very heart of Central.

The cafe was long in shape and customers stepping in are first greeted by the neatly arranged cabinets with packs of cookies, and at one corner there were bottles filled with cookie samples - you get to taste before you buy. Tempting! Take a few more steps and you'd be greeted with the even more-pleasant looking fridge filled with mini-rolls, rolls, macaroons, whole cakes and eye-candies like that. It was a pain to give up ordering myself a few mini-rolls and treated myself an order of frozen yogurt - slightly on the expensive side at $28 for small, $33 for large with 2 toppings. The list of toppings wasnt extensive, but i still had a hard time choosing between some of my all-time favourites!

Sitting down with a $38-froyo with 3 toppings - crumbs, green tea mochi and sesame peanut candies, an unusual choice in froyo joints in Hong Kong, I noticed how the place was filled with circles and circular stuff - rolls, circles, even the mini speakers and the hole of the rubbish bin were circle in shape.

The frozen yogurt was not too tarty to taste but was satisfyingly stiff in texture, and it did not melt off too quickly - or was it because of the coldness? the shop probably got the inspiration for the crumbs from another yogurt joint in town but what they have was less spicy and cinnamon-ish and less crunchy. More buttery and moist i'd say, but I love it all the same. The green tea mochi was probably one of the best I have had in town, carrying a very aromatic, albeit not too sweet nature flavour of the Japanese matcha. The texture was also chewy but not too sticky. Last but not least was the crushed sesame peanut candy, not the Chiucheow variety but the crystal-like variety. It was good! The peanut was roasted and very aromatic, and i enjoyed how the crunchiness contrasted with the smoothness of the yogurt. Variety is what I am always after.

One big advantage of having froyo in winter is that i would not melt off too quicky into a bowl of milkish water, and i could slow down a bit and lick the last drop off the spoon before I moved to sample around the 9 cookies available just at an arm's reach.

I like how the butter cookies were fluffy (not flakey) but not too oily-ish and buttery, and the black sesame cookie was extraordinarily nice. (yes, i am a sesame monster! bring on anything with sesame) The hazelnut cookie came next, the cookie and almond cookie was okay but the coffee was too strong and overshadowed the almond flakes in it, and the butter cookie was nothing but bland and plain. As for the non-buttery cookies the oatmeal cookie was alright, the Palmier was okay but i thought the caramelized surface was too sticky and sweet.

My, i encored on the parmesan sticks and eventually bought a pack(434) home, which i quickly opened and couldnt stop snatching from!

All in all, a very pleasant first-time visit to this TST-based dessert place, and i finally understand why people got all crazy about the rolls. They are so small and so cute-looking that tempt customers into treating themselves one as a light snack after lunch or whatsoever. Roll also serves coffee and tea, as well as a small variety of savoury light snacks and sandwiches too, and the manager said they would offer lunch sets soon. Sounds great - will come back again for sure, and i hope the objective of my next visit would be to sample around the saliva-dripping mini rolls!
