I have not been writing any food comments for quite long. I've been so busy with work, so sometimes when I had some great (or bad) dining experience I would take their biz cards and hopefully I would get to write about it some day... well... some day. Tonight, AS SOON AS i finished dinner and on my way home, I already have the content of this comment in my mind. Why? Bcos it has been my worst dining experience at Wah Cheong and I will not go back. I grew up in TKS and Wah Cheong used to be a hum

I grew up in TKS and Wah Cheong used to be a humble and down-to-earth eatery in the area. They used to (at least I used to believe) to grill their own BBQ items. I remembered as soon as I walked in I could smell the congee and wonton. The smell of good food was rooted in my memory. Last time they rennovated, the restaurant became cleaner and more spacious. They had raised the price, but food quality was maintained. This time... after the recent rennovation, they rasied the price again; and they lit a fire to burn off all my childhood memories about them.
I couldn't smell (or see) the congee anymore. There are 5 waiters but nobody bothered to greet and seat me. They removed some of the dinner sets, and they have $1 charge for tea.
I ordered my usual dish "BBQ pork + soy sauce chicken on rice" and a daily soup at regular price. The dish size is remarkably smaller. I wonder how the guys can feel satisfied with such little rice. The soup is also smaller. When I bit on the chicken... yuck!!! The chicken is mediocre, i could taste the "ice taste" in the chicken... There is no freshness in the meat... Cafe de Carol can easily beat Wah Cheong. BBQ pork was alright, although there was more fat than lean meat... The soup was no longer "老火汤“ but full of msg. (i'm sipping a coke now as I'm typing in order to wash off the taste of MSG).
OMG OMG OMG... I paid $53 for a mediocre dinner and the cashier didn't even say thank you (oh well, she has been rude since day one.)
The whole experience was like a slap on my face, and ouch... the experience was bad.
I think it's time to move on... As everyone in my family was big fan of Wah Cheong, I feel responsbile sharing with them my experience...Farewell Wah Cheong... and bye bye to my good childhood memory.
