After seeing a few posts from different social media platforms, I have decided to buy some take away from this dumpling place for the family gathering dinner tonight. I have been missing these Shanghainese dumpling for a long time as I used to live in Shanghai.
They only have 4 kinds of dumpling and I have chosen 3 of them and I have also ordered a family pack so that we can steam it tonight at home and share with everyone.
蟹黃小籠包 $45/5 pcsSurprisingly, these smaller siu lung bao has a strong crab roe taste with just a little bit of salty taste. The skin at the bottom is quite thin but then the tip of the dumpling is a bit hard to my linking.

Comparatively, these meat base siu lung bar are more savoury and it is packed with minced pork meat. The skin is the same as the crab roe one. I actually couldn’t finish all 10 pieces by myself so I have decided to bring home and re-steam them which is just as nice!
I have ordered the family size which has 6 pieces of raw soup dumplings and it comes with a cool bag and ice for you to keep it in a cold temperature. For the family size one, it is nicely kept in a cool bag with ice at the bottom, and plastic steam trays are also given for you to put the raw frozen soup dumplings on them, then steamed until cooked.
蟹黃湯包 $45/1 pcThe cost is equal to the price of individual ones which is $45 for 1, and $270 for 6. There are straws for you to drink the soup because the dumpling is filled with flavour stock
It is filled with crab roe and crab meat inside the soup dumpling but I must say it's pretty hard to eat the meat and skin on the street with just a straw, I wonder if we are just supposed to drink the soup?
It is quite interesting to see siu lung bao take away in Mong Kok because I have never seen a single take away siu lung bao shop in Shanghai. It’s a good option especially when you are craving for it without wanting to spend too much or go to a proper restaurant just for this one dish.
