The eatery was half empty but the staff (strongly) insisted that half of the restaurant was closed and, even as a family, we would nevertheless have to sit at a small table for two. The eatery was half empty but the staff (strongly) insisted that half of the restaurant was closed and, even as a family, we would nevertheless have to sit at a small table for two. Or sit at separate tables. Never mind the several empty tables immediately behind us which can seat 3-4 people. Given the impracticality of  perching around one small table designed for cozy couples, there was no choice but to sit at separate tables (and waive to my family across the way). A couple more dining guests cramped up in the front area. And then, predictably, the rest of the restaurant (with the more reasonable seating) was made available. The staff had wanted to just cram everyone up front so it would look busy for anyone passing outside. A great way to make guests feel treated poorly and less than comfortable, leaving a bitter taste in place of a sweet one.
