This restaurant is one of those "classic Hong Kong canteens" in the middle of Central on the first floor and the basement. However, the menu also sports a number of "fusion" dishes or "variations on HK classics." I think the concept is much more impressive than the execution. Because of its established name and the rent price at that particular location, you can expect to be underwhelmed. Yup.

I ordered the beef ho fen noodles. Normally i really enjoy this dish, though some places can make it too oily. Typically, that is how the dish is messed up. With what i got here though, i might not have even ordered the right dish, as this was like no beef ho fen i've ever had---in a bad way. First of all, the sauce very thick and was poured on top of the fried noodles. Strange. Even stranger though was the presence of some choy sum stems as well. However, there were hardly any bean sprouts or green onions, and little of the classic, smokey wok he flavor. I understand the "variation on a classic" idea, but i wasnt a fan of these particular variations.

The pork bake was pretty good. Filling and satisfying but nothing authentic about it. Just good comfort food. They did go a bit heavy on the rice though, making the portion huge, but mostly rice.

The pork and fish cake tom yum soup was decent, but not sure how well the fusion works. Again, "variation on a classic" is fine, but i'm not sure how well this works. Fish slice flavor overwhelms a bit, and not quite enough lemongrass flavor. Meh. Generally unimpressive.

Lamb curry was the best. Good strong curry flavor, without being too overwhelming. Lamb was well cooked and tender. This dish saved it from being a total bust. Strangely though, the lamb chops were sitting on mashed potatoes, and additionally served with a large portion of rice. Double carbs? For what! The portion is huge anyway! And they dont really mesh.

Overall i've had more enjoyable versions of each dish we ordered elsewhere, for cheaper, so will not be able to come back.
