My friends and I decided to meet up for dinner in June, and after picking between a few restaurants, we settled on having steam pot.  I called the restaurant and made a reservation for the 3 of us, but one of us got sick that day and had to cancel, so I called the restaurant to change the reservation and didn't have any problems up to this point.

I arrived at the restaurant at 7:55pm for our 8pm reservation, and the server at the hostess stand said the table wasn't ready which was fine since my reservation was for 8.  Then, my friend showed up 15 minutes later, and the table still wasn't ready, and the server told us it would be ready soon; they were just waiting for the patrons to leave as they have already paid.  Then, it was 8:20pm, and still no table, the server, then proceeded to tell us that there's  a discount after 8:30pm, and since we've waited so long already and the table still wasn't ready we figured, we might as well wait for the discount.  We kept waiting and waiting, and finally, we had a table at 8:40pm!

We were seated at a round table that was awkwardly placed right next to a pillar, as in the table was touching the pillar, and the servers kept running into our chairs that we had to shuffle the chairs around.  Actually, the servers were complaining that our seats were in their way, so we had to move the chairs around.

We placed our food order quickly as we were both very hungry at this point!

The restaurant is set up that it's a semi-buffet, where you get to pick 5 types of seafood, and the meat items and vegetable items are all you can eat.  The set included a choice of 3 soups, but we had only 1 choice as the other two were sold out.

Winter melon clams soup: For a double boiled soup, the soup was pretty bland.  The winter melon pieces had the right texture, so to me, this soup was just extra vegetables for our protein-heavy meal.

The server started the steam pot by adding the ingredients for our chosen congee, which was the Chinese yam and dried scallops congee.

Next, I went to the seasonings bar to concoct my sauce mixtures.  The beverage fridge was right behind the seasoning bars, which offered a decent variety of drinks, but they didn't have anything that was sugar-free.

For our seafood, we selected the baby geoducks, abalone, razor clams, Japanese giant scallops, and mud crabs, and the mixed shellfish plate and lobster were complimentary items that came with the meal.

Mini geoduck: The garlic gave the mini geoduck an oomph of flavor, and the server was right there to serve us when the timer went off, so the texture was just right.

Abalone: The cordycep flowers and marinade on the abalone tasted pretty good, but the abalone itself was a bit too chewy to my liking.

Mixed Shellfish Plate: The shellfish were very fresh and had the natural sweet flavor, which was very delicious.  The shellfish were steamed just the right amount of time, so it had a nice bite without being too chewy!

Lobster: The lobster was overcooked, so it was a little hard to chew, and the garlic overpowered the lobster flavor.  The lobster was actually very overcooked because the servers didn't come over to our table when the timer went off, and after a few minutes, I had to flag down a server to tell them the lobster was done!

Japanese giant scallops: The scallop was overcooked as well, but since it had a very thick body, it wasn't too bad.  For a fresh giant scallop, the garlic wasn't necessary, and the garlic almost overtook the scallop's natural sweetness.

Razor clams: The razor clams were overcooked to the point where it was quite rubbery.

Beef cubes: The beef cubes had a lot of fat and tendons left on them, and they were very overcooked and very difficult to chew on!  The beef lacked flavor.  Even though this is one of the all you can eat items, I'd steer clear of them!

Mixed Vegetables: The vegetables were pretty fresh and had a natural sweet flavor.  The vegetables didn't have any seasoning on it, so they definitely needed a dip in my sauce mixture.

Mud crab: The crab was steamed to just the right doneness, and the crab was very flavorful with the crab mustard that was throughout the crab.

Loofah:  The gourd was pretty crunchy, but they could have used some garlic since they were pretty bland.  Even after dipping them in my sauce mixture, they still tasted pretty flat, so garlic was a much needed addition in the cooking process.

Chinese yam and dried scallops congee:  For a steam pot congee, this congee was very bland and lacked any flavor.  I added the preserved vegetable to the congee, and still, it just tasted flat.

Even though this steam pot restaurant was a semi-buffet, we didn't feel like it was such a good deal at $400 per person.  They were understaffed, and the servers were not very attentive and quite rude at times.  Half of our food was overcooked since the servers were not paying to attention to our table when the timer would go off. The 40 minute wait time even though I made a reservation was outrageous!  For the same value, there are plenty of other steam pot choices that offer better food and service.
