As the temperatures drop and those typhoons keep rolling in, there's nothing quite like a steaming bowl of comfort soup. If you’re craving something truly special, you HAVE to try the authentic Malaysian bak kut teh at @bagus.kawankuTheir name means “good friend” in Malay - the warm vibes and delicious food will make you feel right at home. Their name means “good friend” in Malay - the warm vibes and delicious food will make you feel right at home. We swung by on a weekday for dinner, and both floors were buzzing with hungry diners (thank goodness we arrived a bit earlier)
After we placed our order through the QR code, we were each served a complimentary bowl of steaming hot bak kut teh soup. Talk about a warm welcome! And all of our food arrived before I even finished it.

Packed with chicken feet, tender pork belly, pork knuckle, tofu puffs, and a whole bunch of other goodies, this was a total feast. And we’re all about that Malaysian bak kut teh —the herbal medicinal notes had a robust flavor that was strong yet perfectly balanced, with a sweet finish that left us wanting more. The best part? FREE soup refills!

We ordered this since it’s exclusive to their Tai Wai shop and has a hilarious name (辣死你嗎). But we recommend it cuz DAMN that fried chicken thigh was bomb with its crispy skin and tender juicy meat. Don’t be alarmed by the vibrant green rice—it’s coconut pandan goodness that smells divine. Just a heads up for my fellow spice-sensitive friends: the accompanying laksa curry and chili pack a serious punch

We’ve had our fair share of Hainanese chicken, but the Malaysian Ipoh way was a whole new experience! Instead of the usual cucumber, this dish features crunchy bean sprouts at the bottom that soak up the delicious special sauce. The yellow ginger rice had a lovely earthy flavor that paired perfectly with the chicken, making every bite a delight!

Gotta keep it balanced, so we picked the only non-spicy veggie dish. The boiled lettuce was perfectly crispy, and the garlic soy sauce took this simple dish to the next level—just the right amount of flavor without being too salty

Loved that we could customize the drinks to be less sweet cuz let’s be real, Malaysians do have a sweet tooth! Both the 𝗧𝗲𝗵 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗸 𝗛𝗞𝗗𝟮𝟮 and the 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗮𝘂𝗿 𝗛𝗞𝗗𝟯𝟬 hit the spot with just the right level of sweetness without compromising on the flavor
