Came here for a post-exam celebratory lunch. We were given a comfortable booth table. The weather was good further complimented the stunning view from the restaurant.

Not wanting to think too much, we opted for the Chef’s Tasting Menu. The first course was the Ponzu Dressed Hamachi. We were given two slices of hamachi and it tasted fresh. The second “appetizer” was the Bonito Fried Duck Leg, fried and dissected at the table and then used to top the watermelon salad. The waitress mentioned it was her favorite dish and I’d have to agree. The duck was crispy, juicy and delicious, and paired nicely with its healthier salad counterpart.

Next was the Grilled Scallops. This was the only letdown dish. My gripe wasn’t with the quality - it tasted amazing - but the quantity. We each had one piece of scallop. Overall, the duck dish leaves your stomach relatively content anyway but it would still be nice to be served more than one piece of scallop as a dish.

The main course was Alto’s Beef Wellington. We paid $88 extra for the Foie Gras. I usually don’t each mashed potatoes and the restaurant was kind enough to swap them out for a VERY generous helping of chips. The Wellington itself is heavenly, cooked to perfection, tender, and flavorful. It definitely contested the Fried Duck Leg as the star of the show. It’s definitely a good enough incentive for me to come back.

Finally, we had the desserts: chocolate sorbet and sticky toffee pudding. I’m personally not much a fan of chocolate but I did enjoy the sticky toffee pudding! I’m a sucker for caramel sauce and the small dollop of vanilla bean ice cream really brought the whole menu home.

Overall, the staff was very welcoming and the food absolutely delivered. We unquestioningly got our bang for the buck. I will be back!
