I normally dislike macaroons because they are just too sweet and I thought they were just egg white whipped up with a lot of sugar. But Pierre Herme macaroon completely changed my preconcept. I tried all 9 flavours available in HK store and my favourites are Peruvian dark chocolate & Creme Brulee. To me the second best ones are Green Olive & Green Tea macaroons- they are quite unique. Also rose macaroons are nice- though they taste similar to rose petal jam I brought from Southern France last Easter.
The only pieces I would not recommend are Caramel (it tastes like burnt sugar) and Hazelnut which didn't have much impact on me.
7 pieces for HKD165. It's about 25 per piece- not cheap but not horrendously expensive, I think. I usually buy chocolates from La Maison du Chocolat & Jean Paul Hevin and they are very pricey. Maybe that's why I think Pierre Herme macaroons are better value for money- you get to appreciate the efforts put into this one piece of dessert while eating it. It's art.
