Shek Kip Mei is such a charming place to live in; nice foods, nice cafes, fresher air, cleaner and newer facilities, and proximity to university campuses. This tiny Chinese tea restaurant is on the first floor of Baptist University campus branch of art. Shek Kip Mei is such a charming place to live in; nice foods, nice cafes, fresher air, cleaner and newer facilities, and proximity to university campuses.
This tiny Chinese tea restaurant is on the first floor of Baptist University campus branch of art. With only 1 minute of walk from home, here I am, enjoying artisan tea in this unique Chinese café(they provide WIFI).
What I appreciate is its artistic atmosphere--- a lot of the customers here are either staff of the university or artists working in this branch. The café has amazing wooden-brown decoration such as Chinese tea pot sets and Chinese herbal healthy snacks for you get a brief understanding of Chinese food culture.
For me, wine and coffee in the west has similar status as tea in the east. Tea is our blood, hotly-boiled; we cannot skip a day without it!
Here they have special tea bags combining eastern and western factors. The lavender tea has lavender seeds together with Chinese tea leaves, diffusing a deep and subtle color into boiled water. The moderate scent of lavender gradually fades off after re-adding water into the glass for 2 times. Lavender’s fragrance is strong in the beginning, but immediately follows with pure tea aftertaste.
The lemon green tea doesn’t have lemon taste at all, but still amazing.
I was quite disappointed with their boiled dumplings. The ginger and Chinese kale dumplings are very strong in the flavor of ginger, and they are average in standard, but quite expensive (40HKD/4 euros per afternoon set, 5 dumplings with tea). The tea is the best part of this cozy café.
By the way, they have minimum charge: one lunch or tea per person. Tea alone is 25HKD, up or down.
For sure, it’s rare modern Chinese café as an alternative for me to work on my projects from my laptop apart from western cafes. Yes, I am a digital nomad!
PS: It’s worthwhile to visit Golden Café, which is a western café directly opposite to it. The furnishing is reminiscent of our Old Hong Kong.
Hot water; serve yourself!
