It has never occured to me before, at least not until recently: Maxim Group's 'Simplylife Concept', despite sharing the same brand name within a few locations - in reality sell different types of food and drinks in each of its outlets. I finally discovered this only having visited Here, the IFC, 又一城 and Taikoo branches finally! In each location, Maxim's have deliberately altered the menu to cater for its intended clientale - so here, apart from the bread and bain-marie heated stews and pa
I was however happy to see that this branch of SIMPLYLIFE actually sells some good quality Belgian Beers, including the hard-to-source Hoegaarden Grand Cru version. Isn't it hilarious that a Maxim's 'chain store' carries the top end Hoegaarden beer whereas almost none of the dedicated Belgian bars carry one, except say FRITES? From what I have heard from sources, its purely down to its Lower Profit Margins compared to the bulk-bought, lower end Draught versions which comes in drums and is completely different tasting though more lighter and refreshing. BOTH ARE GOOD IN THEIR OWN WAYS AND IT'LL BE NICE TO COMPARE THEM SIDE-BY-SIDE.
Also tried a SAUSAGES & VEGIES SOUP - this was quite fatty and oil has floated onto the surface. Plenty of herbal influence as well, with plenty of boring boiled potatoes and pumpkin. I didn't like this at all and it wasn't finished even to 1/3rd of the way!
