At Mana, I rediscovered my love affair with zaatar..... it's a middle eastern spice blend of sumac, herbs, and sesame that's tangy and aromatic. It jogged memories of my university days in Montreal, where I often bought flatbread wraps sprinkled with zaatar and filled with lettuce, tomatoes, and olives. A filling meal for less than HK$20.

A similar wrap at Mana is almost four times the price, but I have to admit I went two days in a row this week, wanting more of that herby, crispy flatbread. Both times, I ordered the "Mana! Bliss" wrap, which is a zaatar-topped toasted flatbread filled with hummus, spinach, cucumber and avocado ($75). The cool, fresh ingredients inside was a welcoming contrast from the piping hot bread. You could also choose other fillings like haloumi cheese, roasted vegetables, garlic mayonnaise. I thought the flatbreads were a bit light on the zaatar, but perhaps I'm just more heavy-handed with the spices.

The second time I had the Mana! Bliss, the flatbread wasn't nearly toasted enough and didn't have any of the crispy edges I was so much looking forward to, and left it tasting a bit too doughy. So I would encourage you ask the staff to toast it well to make your $75 experience worthwhile! It would actually be quite easy to recreate the wrap at home using pita bread and Mana does sell zaatar by the pack ($100).

It's worth a try if you're vegetarian or if you're around the area and looking for a quick, healthy bite, but I'm not sure if the price will sit right with everyone. But for a Central office worker who may spend $60-70 at Simply Life or Pret A Manger anyway, this is a good alternative.
