Tonkichi has been around since 1999 or possibly before when the internet wasn't popular back then. When I came to Hongkers, I was recommended this place by locals and even expats so it had reputation back then.I remember coming here about 10 years ago before it got renovated but it is still impressive how it has managed to stay put at this exact spot since 1999.Some good restaurants are forced to change location because the whole building has to be knocked down and redone but luckily WTC hasn't

I remember coming here about 10 years ago before it got renovated but it is still impressive how it has managed to stay put at this exact spot since 1999.
Some good restaurants are forced to change location because the whole building has to be knocked down and redone but luckily WTC hasn't budged.
The only thing that I didn't like was how cramped the restaurant was and it was understaffed. The first thing you will hear is the sounds of sesame being crushed.
As well as Tonkatsu I ordered some side dishes as back ups which were truly not needed because the quality of the food was clearly good which explains why it is still here.
It makes me curious if the other branches are as good but I am glad I went back to this branch where I dined 10 years ago.
Sadly I didn't remember much back then when as it was just a BBC gathering and my friends ordered.
It is served with unlimited cabbage and rice.
Both the pork and chicken were good, the frying oil was fresh and the crispy coating was like snow that it melted in your mouth.
The upper palate didn't feel sore afterwards which indicates how delicate the coating was.
