We were not actually celebrating CNY - we did that the night before (my husband is non-Chinese so it's not a big deal for us). However, we did want to go and have a tea buffet near our place (Tung Chung) and not deal with the crowds. My husband and kids are vegetarian (no seafood, no meat) and the buffet for $118 per adult and $98 per child (3 - 11) was not good. There was almost nothing savoury that they could eat (except some lettuce, cherry tomatoes and salad dressing) but lots of sweet desserts which was not a problem for my 3 year old and 1 1/2 year old. However, my husband was not impressed. When he tried ordering a la carte from the menu, there was one same old same old penne arrabiata for something like $118 - not worth it.
I being a meat eater was somewhat satisfied. There were some fried noodles, average dim sum (char siu bao, har gows), some grilled beef, some terrible fish cakes, chicken wings. Now that I type this, I am realising that it really wasn't worth the money. However, it being Chinese New Year there was the traditional dragon dance that came around to bless all of the hotel's restaurants so my kids got to see that, at least. Also, they have really comfy couches that you can sit on and enough space for the kids to run around or just make themselves spread out on the couch. They also had tons of really good magazines that you can read while NOT really enjoying your tea buffet.
BTW, I asked them if they gave discount off to Tung Chung residents and I showed the waitress my resident octopus card and she gave us 20% off, thank goodness.
