好吧，我是被這家cafe的人流而吸引進來的。話說有一個星期六的下午時候經過上環的Veygo Coffee，在門前看到cafe內坐滿了食客，有很多人在吃burger，加上食物賣相挺好的，便決定有空時拜訪。Alright, I was attracted to this cafe since it has become quite popular lately. 正式再來的時候是一個閒日的中午時份，來吃午餐的上班一族也不少。店子不太大，裝潢走簡約路線。侍應們服務及態度都非常好，肯花不少時間回答客人的問題。打開餐牌還有點嚇了一跳，有很多的選擇呢，例如常見的brunch選擇如all day breakfast, egg benedicts，還有沙律、不同款式的burger等。
When I finally came here again it was a weekday afternoon and many office workers came for lunch. TC and I got in. The cafe is not very specious, yet cozy with a simplistic style. Service from waiters/waitresses was good and they were willing to answer questions in length. I was pleasantly surprised to see the cafe offers a good variety of brunch food like all day breakfast, egg benedicts, salad and burgers.
但很快對這家cafe的好感幻滅。
Well, the good impression disappeared as fast as the speed of light.
咖啡 - 先來杯咖啡。沒記錯的話，我的一杯是creme brulee cappuccino。我的印象是，嘩很甜！可能我一直都是在Cafe Habitu那裡喝creme brulee cappuccino，而Cafe Habitu 的是咖啡上有一薄片的焦糖，用匙羹按下去會把那片焦糖切碎，而且下面的咖啡一點都不甜。但在Veygo Coffee的是完全不同的！因為它的creme brulee原來是指creme brulee味的糖漿。。。唉，真的是有早知無乞衣。另想強調的是這杯咖啡真的很很很很甜。連鎖咖啡店的各式各樣下不同味道糖漿的咖啡也沒有這裡的甜。
TC的那杯咖啡好像是Malt Latte或Malt Cappuccino，忘了是那款。但唯一記得的這杯甜得令人想反桌的味道！！對！又是非常非常甜的一杯！反正大家來的話就建議點最平凡的Latte、Cappuccino或Flat White，除非你嗜甜，那麼你可以點這些特式咖啡挑戰極限。
Coffee - First thing first, coffee. If I remember correctly, I ordered creme brulee cappuccino and it was so SWEET. I admit that my only other creme brulee cappuccino experience has always been with Cafe Habitu, which offers "real creme brulee", a thin piece of brunt caramel on top of the coffee, and the coffee is never sweet. The creme brulee cappuccino here is totally different. Creme brulee flavour syrup is used... I just wish to stress again that this coffee is really really sweet and be warned. It's even sweeter than the 'flavoured syrup coffee" you get from chain cafes.
What about TC's coffee? I remember it's either malt latte or malt cappuccino, I forget which but the only thing I can still remember vividly is the sweetness. It's so sweet that you wanna hit someone and go on a murder spree.
I strongly advise everyone to just order their normal latte, cappuccino or flat white etc unless you want to push the limit.
Malt Latte/Malt Cappuccino? - who cares? just don't order either
沙律 - 沒記錯的話，沙律是本身有一兩款材料選擇，想要多不同的配料可以逐款加錢，而逐款加錢是不便宜的(本身沙律的價錢亦是不便宜的)。如果你認為在一家走洋化的cafe內的沙律會有不錯的質素，你的想法有一半是對的。菜不錯，三文魚有數片而車厘茄也新鮮。Salad -There are a couple of options to go with your salad vegetables and you can add more ingredients by paying more for each item. Take note it's not cheap. And if you think that you can get some decent salad in a cafe that is obviously of western style (or try to achieve), you are only half right. The vegetables were nice, there were few pieces of salmon and the cherry tomatoes were fresh.
不過，為了不會太單調及想吃多一點健康的蔬果，我加了兩款配料，造成錯誤。額外加的菠蘿不是新鮮的，付了不便宜的錢加配料卻招惹了疑似罐頭貨。你能相信嗎？反正我就是吃了。另外加的chickpea鷹嘴豆竟然是以焗炸好的形態上場。斷估不會是自家焗炸吧，而且誰要在沙律中加上少量這些極不健康而又吃不出是鷹嘴豆的東東？
反正Veygo的沙律就是拿不同的現成即食的加工品給你。店方有多用心？
最後，大家可看到這沙律的份量少得可憐。
BUT, in order to consume more fruits and vegetables, I added two more items to my salad and it proved to be a great mistake. The extra pineapples were shockingly not fresh, that is, I paid for some canned low-quality pineapples. The extra chickpeas were equally a joke as they were deep-fried and I highly doubt if the cafe had deep-fried them itself, which only meant they got some ready-to-eat chickpeas from god knows where. Who would want canned pineapples and super unhealthy chickpeas for a salad?
How exactly can a cafe succeed when they just used all different kinds of junk ready-to-eat food? And don't forget this salad is tiny.
素食漢堡 - 另外還點了幾乎每檯都有的burger。賣相不差。如果薯角可多一兩條會更好。伴隨burger的是一小包茄醬，如果用小碟盛著便可棄用不環保的小包。薯角熱呼呼的上檯，淋了一點但都不錯。Burger是挺大份的。中間夾著的有沙律菜、蕃茄、芝士及素漢堡扒。漢堡包是正常的，亦有稍微烘熱。漢堡扒比較乾，有點兒像吃腐皮卷。整體來說這漢堡還可接受，是這天最好的。
Vegetarian Burger - The other item we got was the burger, which every table got one. It looked pretty nice but I guess a bit more potato wedges would have been even better. Also came with the burger was a sachet of ketchup. Wouldn't it be more environmental friendly to use a small plate for ketchup instead of sachets? Maybe I am being too critical of Vegyo...
The potatoes wedges were hot when arrived, they were nice although a bit soggy. The burger was big and had some salad leaves, tomato, cheese and the vegetarian patties. The bun was normal and was slightly toasted. The vegetarian patties was dry and the texture was like tofu skin. Overall it's an okay burger and the best item of the day.
朱古力蛋糕 - 沒記錯的話它們有些甜點是自製的，不過在櫥窗內看到的蛋糕都是由供應商買回來。這朱古力蛋糕沒有太甜，但亦沒有香濃的朱古力味，質素一般。以這樣的價錢在同區有不少更好的選擇。Chocolate Cake - I think Veygo offers some housemade desserts but most of the cakes on display are from suppliers. We picked the chocolate cake which was neither sweet nor chocolate-y. It's just so so. You definitely can get something better in the same area at the same price.
Iced Cappuccino - 後來點了一杯外帶的涷cappuccino，終於不是甜的了！！這杯咖啡不錯。Iced Cappuccino - A takeaway iced cappuccino and finally a non-sugary taste coffee!
試了上環及灣仔的店，都沒有好印象。不明白為可flavoured coffee drink可以離譜地甜，甜得根本連咖啡味都喝不出來，本末倒置。另外的印象是這家cafe提供不同款式的brunch食品，明顯是走西洋風，而且價錢也一定是。但是在沙律上露出了馬腳。正常外國人開的餐廳又怎會用炸的chickpea、罐頭的菠蘿或沒水準的芝士？通常在港式的西餐廳才會吃到這類沙律。但如果店家希望走洋化的路線，心是一定要用的。Neither the Sheung Wan nor the Wanchai branch impressed me at all. I still couldn't understand the abnormal high level of sweetness in the coffee in which coffee taste was hardly found. Besides, Veygo clearly is trying to position itself as an "Western" style cafe, which is also reflected in its price. Then what's wrong with the salad? A real "Western" style cafe would not use canned pineapple or flavourless cheese. Just up your game Veygo.
