When we were having lunch at grandma's last Sunday, she said that my uncle was going out for dinner, and she didn't want to have dinner alone.  So, my aunt suggested that we go to a restaurant at QRE Plaza since she had a coupon for the East which would expire soon.  Grandma hasn't had Japanese food for a while, so I called Kimaki to book a table for the 4 of us for 7:30.We were seated at a booth, and I got the seat next to the window.  Upon inspection, I saw that the window sill was quite dusty

When we were having lunch at grandma's last Sunday, she said that my uncle was going out for dinner, and she didn't want to have dinner alone.  So, my aunt suggested that we go to a restaurant at QRE Plaza since she had a coupon for the East which would expire soon.  Grandma hasn't had Japanese food for a while, so I called Kimaki to book a table for the 4 of us for 7:30.

We were seated at a booth, and I got the seat next to the window.  Upon inspection, I saw that the window sill was quite dusty.  Then, during the meal, a small fly landed on my napkin!  The restaurant is located on the 28th floor of the building, so I thought it was quite strange that a fly would end up in the restaurant that is so high up!  Because of the dust and the fly, I had to take off quite a few points for the sanitary rating!

The table was already set with chopsticks, plate, and soy sauce plate for each of us.  We each had a cup of tea, and it was refilled throughout the meal.

While we were placing our order, grandma and my aunt each ordered a cod fish set dinner, but we later found out that the server only placed the order for 1 set.  By ths time, we were already having our appetizers, so we decided that grandma and my aunt will share one dinner set.

My cousin ordered the Grilled Shark's Fin in Japanese Style, so grandma could try something rather than her normal dried fugu sticks.

Grilled Shark's Fin in Japanese Style: I'm not sure if this is really shark's fin, or if there was something lost in translation, as this tasted more like the grilled fish fin I've had at other Japanese restaurants.  The grilled shark's fin were quite tough to chew, but they tasted pretty good.

Next came my grandma's favorite--toro sashimi.  We decided to order the chu toro rather than o toro since o toro might be too oily for grandma's aging digestive system!

Toro (Medium) Sashimi:  The toro sashimi was pretty good.  It was very fresh, and the slices were quite thick, so that made it very toothsome.  However, I was disappointed to see that there was a fish scale stuck on my slice!

Next, it was another of grandma's favorites, uni sushi.

Sea Urchin Sushi: The gunkan maki was filled to the brim with uni, and the uni was very delicious.  However, I was shocked to find an uni spine in my sushi!  This has never happened before, and I can't fathom how the uni spine ended up in the gunkan maki!

My cousin and I each ordered the Premium Assorted Sashimi with Rice Set since the Chinese name of the set had the restaurant's name in it, so we presumed this is a signature dinner set.

The dinner set came with a green salad, agedashi tofu, and miso soup.  The green salad and miso soup were pretty standard.  The agedashi tofu had a nice crispy crust, and the tofu went very well with the seasoned soy sauce.

Premium Assorted Sashimi with Rice: The sashimi slices were very fresh and tasted pretty good.  The rice was seasoned pretty well.  For $398 though, this sashimi rice set is quite expensive since there are many other Japanese restaurants that offer the same quality rice sets for a cheaper price.

After we were done with our dinner sets, the same server that made the mistake taking our dinner set order came and took our dessert order which was a choice between 2 types of mochi ice cream.  She took our dirty plate away, and we presumed that she was put in our order as well.  But then a few minutes later, another server came over to take our dessert order again.  It turns out that the first server didn't put in our dessert order.  By this time, my cousin and I decided to forego our mochi ice creams and let grandma and my aunt have them.  The two of us left to head to the potato chips place next door since the potato chips and Hokkaido milk ice cream was much more enticing.

I had pretty high hopes for Kimaki since godbro XO gave it a good rating when he went there.  However, my experience was nothing like his.  The service was quite disappointing with the server not knowing the menu (the server couldn't answer the simple questions we had about the menu and kept asking the manager about the items we were ordering) and making mistakes with our order.  The food was so so, and the fish scale and uni spine were quite appalling even though I was the only one that found those items in my food. With the poor sanitation and quite expensive prices, I would not return to Kimaki in the future!
