Sunday afternoon, boyfriend, his mother and I went out for dim sum. We decided to go try out Siu Shun Village Cuisine as it was listed in the Michelin guide under Bib Gourmand. Something all the way in Megabox?

It was busy when we got there so we did wait a while. We had no idea so many people would come all the way here for dim sum as it wasn't really a residential neighbourhood.

Once we sat down, we realized why. On weekends and public  holidays, prices are 50% off! What a deal! Dim sum menu is in the form of a check off list. They are in English and Chinese except for the specials. Those are in Chinese only.

Three Different Steamed Cakes ($14.80). This included three different types of steamed cakes: daikon, chestnut and taro. These were not too good as they had way too much flour. But I always find that this is the case with every restaurant except during Chinese New Year.

Baked Shredded Radish Shortcakes  ($16.80). The size of these were huge! They were the size of my hand. When I lifted on, they were heavy. But honestly, quite good. Not too oily as  I see they were baked and not fried. The radish was sweet and soft.

Baked Purple Sweet Potato Pie ($12.80). These were a bit on the dry side.  The filling was  not too sweet but more creamy than I had expected.

Deep Fried Dough Sticks with Cuttlefish ($14.80). This is something I had never seen before so we ordered it. These were addictive. The cuttlefish was firm. The dough sticks were not too oily. Everything went well.

Baked BBQ Buns ($15.80). The filling was sweet and pretty good. Though the bun was a bit on  the dry side.

Meat Dumplings  in Spicy Sauce ($15.80). Usually these are more spicier but oddly they added vinegar so there was a balanced spicy and sour taste. I liked this balance as it made it not so spicy.

Sponge Cake ($13.80). This was my favorite. Spongy and soft. Not too sweet.

Steamed Beef Tripe ($16.80). The beef tripe was braised and savory. The flavor was intense and the tripe was soft. It was laid on a bed of tofu puffs to soak up the flavors.

Sweet and Sour Ribs and Noodles with Fish Patty Combo ($128). There was a list of Michelin recommended combo sets and as we were here for the Michelin recommend, we decided to try this. We actually expected them to be smaller portions but they weren't! They were full size portions! Come to think of it, it seemed portion sizes here were very generous.

This was the sweet and sour ribs. The flavors were a good balance and I detected a bit of fermented bean as well. The ribs were tender and moist as well.

Now this was excellent and I could see why the Michelin people recommended this dish. The noodles were ok but it was the slices of fish patty. The patty was firm with a strong fish taste. It was seasoned perfectly. I haven't had such a good fish patty in  long time.

Quality food with generous portions. Combined with excellent value for money deals, this is worth  a long trip into Megabox. It is a bit noisy but seating is spacious enough without being bumped around by people and staff unlike a lot of other places.
