Everyone knows about Share Tea. Way before all those other Taiwanese bubble tea places came to Hong Kong, there was Share Tea. Offering basic bubble tea for under $20. But now there is competition! So, they have created a new concept. This concept actually did originate in Taipei! It's called Share le Pain. Now, you must be thinking ... hmm ... why would they want to share pain with me? Le Pain is French for bread and that is the new concept. Higher end tea and an onsite bakery. Located in Causew
Now, you must be thinking ... hmm ... why would they want to share pain with me? Le Pain is French for bread and that is the new concept. Higher end tea and an onsite bakery. Located in Causeway Bay's WTC, I happened upon it a month ago when I in this building for dinner. I made a note to return when it opened.
The shop is take away only.
They have fresh bread on one side with a bakery that you can see in the back. There are samples a plenty!
The tea drinks are made on the other side with the use of espresso machines. Much like Comebuytea (the fancier version of Comebuy) who does the same thing. Comebuytea's reasoning for the espresso machine is to produce a more concentrated tea by forcing steam through it. And I have to agree. I think Comebuytea does a pretty good cup of tea.
Menu is in English and Chinese. With this new concept, they have increased prices a bit to align themselves with the newer boba tea places. Ice and sweetness can be adjusted. They also have drinks not available at their regular Share Tea locations.
While I was there, they had a promotion. Order any drink and get a free boba custard lava bun after sharing on social media. That's pretty good as the bun costs $15 to sell your soul!
I got the mixed fruit tea ($35). They gave me a pick to eat the fruit later. What fruit was included? Two squashed calamansi, a super thin slice of pineapple (which was useless to eat as it was mostly skin), slice of orange, slice of lime, two slices of apple and two slices of guava. The staff informed me to mix it before drinking but that was a bit hard to do as it was stuffed with fruit. The drink was ok. It tasted mostly of calamansi, bordering on sour plum drink. Now, that I think about it, it tasted more like salted mandarin so I'm wondering if the calamansi was actually salted mandarin? But it was green so I don't know? But it had that taste in my drink. The taste of tea wasn't strong at all. In fact, it was a bit weak. One could say it may be due to all the fruit stuffed in it, but I don't think so. I've ordered mixed fruit tea from other places (Cha Long, Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea) and I could taste the tea despite the fruit addition. So, drink wise, this was a bit overpriced for $25 especially after all that espresso machine action. The fruit also wasn't as sweet and good as Cha Long and Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea. The guava had a slight bitter taste. And they were so thinly sliced as well.
As I did the promotion, they gave me a custard lava boba bun. The staff was pretty nice. Despite she suddenly became a bit busy, she still brought it out to me. I was expecting to grab it myself. The bun isn't very big. But it wasn't small. A nice tea time snack before dinner.
The bread was soft and fluffy. Had a slight sweetness that is found in Asian bread. But the custard! WOW! It was delicious! It was also stuffed with it! Not stingy on the filling! It had a lovely Taiwanese milk tea flavor. The boba was sweet, soft and chewy. This is literally milk boba tea in bun form!
The bread was actually better than the tea. So, I'll be back to try the other bread or just keep cashing in on their opening promotion.
