I live down the street, and when Heirloom opened, I told ALL of my collegues and friends about this place. The decorations were great, the food was fantastic, and the service was not bad either. It quickly became my every day hangout.

I have since gotten to know some of the staff, (which coincidentally are all gone except for the rude manager) and to top it off, the last three times I have been its not been bad. It has been TERRIBLE.

All of the small details t hat made this place stand out, are gone. The dishcloth napkins have been replaced by what look like cheap sarongs you would buy at a touristic beach, the menus have been covered in plastic (they look like they belong in macdonalds) the mismatched flowers, beautiful cakes on the table, good music cool glasses for cocktails... They are all gone. They even changed the layout, and closed the entire front. This is what made heirloom special, people like to take their dogs, have a smoke and chit chat outside.

The carnita tacos which were my favorite, have become a greasy tasteless mess, although the fish ones are still alright. They replaced the other tacos, with some american ribs... (how is that a taco, especially as its obviously the leftover from the ribs they have on the menu as a main course?)

Anyways, I did some digging and I finally found out. One of the owners (the one who was always there, making sure the place was great and talking to us regularly, has left!!) I don't know what kind of mess they must have gotten into to leave something that clearly was a passion project, but like her.... I am gone, and will not be returning.

If the other owners get to read this, GET THE MEXICAN BACK. It is what made heirloom special to begin with, now its just a has-been restaurant; where the crowd went from very cool, to screaming kids and ugly people.

You really need to sort all this out, or you will fail very very soon. It really is very sad to watch, and I am sorry I am making such a public review, but hopefully it will be read, and things will improve. Sadly, I won't be there to witness if this ever does change.

One thing is for sure, I will be visiting the newly opened socialito for tacos instead!

Yours,

An EX ambassador for Heirloom.
