I think boyfriend and I should not randomly enter any old cha chan teng in Mong Kok. I think boyfriend and I should not randomly enter any old cha chan teng in Mong Kok. It seems every time we do, it always ends up with me and an unhappy face.

It was getting late and we didn't have dinner yet. So, we went into a random cha chan teng. Menu was in Chinese only. There is no English. There is also no 10% service charge. The decoration of the place was cute with a very retro feel inside. There was a minimum order of one actual food item per person. That was odd as what if I only wanted a drink? Boyfriend scoffed at me and said no one comes in to a cha chan teng only for a drink. The menu also said that all items came with a drink and dessert.

Dessert?

Yes, this was the dessert. A few cubes of watermelon. I can be ok with a bit of free fruit.

Drinks were Taiwanese based ones. Boyfriend ordered a bubble milk tea (on the left). It was a bit weak tasting. The boba were also super hard.  I had the apple green tea. It was really green in color with an artificial apple flavor and no tea flavor at all.

This is boyfriend's meal. A grilled chicken steak lo mein. It did come with a bit of boiled vegetables that had absolutely no flavor. Oddly, everything was bland. The chicken steak felt like it was boiled and then sweet sauce was poured on top.

This was what I ordered. Chicken wings with a sausage, fries and salad. The fries were cold and starchy. The chicken wings were fried so long, they were actually crunchy. And what is with only giving me a quarter of sausage? It's bad enough they didn't give me one whole sausage, but not even half one but a quarter? What was also surprising was the salad which was just lettuce drowned in thousand island sauce and what was this?? Bits of fake shark fin? Needless, to say, I couldn't finish this.

Probably one of the worst cha chan tengs I've ever been to. And I've been to quite a few. Definitely won't be back.
