Finally got a chance to try Henry's Kitchen for dinner! Picked this place for my cousin's bday dinner! Have been here for a weekend lunch before but found their set lunch to be very "Chai Chang Tang" feel with their menu which is too bad, coz their a la carte menu at the time seemed very enticing! Which is why I decided to try it out!As it was Monday night, not much business, came early to drop off the "surprise" bday cake to be stored till after dinner! FYI, they do not have a cake-cutting f
As it was Monday night, not much business, came early to drop off the "surprise" bday cake to be stored till after dinner! FYI, they do not have a cake-cutting fee which is great! Was told when I made the reservation they also had a selection of desserts to choose from: Hot Chocolate Lava cake, Creme Brulee, Tiramisu cup, New York cheesecake
But I decided to bring my own!
Tonight was given a choice of 4 set dinners ($148-168), I couldnt resist the Duck breasts with pan-fried Foie Gras! The set came with Soup of the day (Cream of Pumpkin or Minestrone), a piece of hot garlic toast, a choice of fruit or Ceasar salad and tea or coffee.
While the bday gal decided on the a la carte, she ordered the Escargot with cheese and portabello mushroom ($68) as appetizer and Mushroom risotto with Truffle sauce ($108) as her main...
The A la carte menu were a mixture of Italian-French choices such as pastas, risottos, pizza, a large selection of soups, and very "French" appeitzers like pan fried Foie Gras, white wine clams, and the Escargot with Mushroom.
The Minestrone was nothing special, but the Ceasar Salad is quite good, thou a little heavy on the dressing, it had real Parmasean cheese and bacon bits! While the Escargot was actually toppings on one large Portabello mushroom then piled up with melted cheese and peppers like a pizza! Surprisingly tasty!
The risotto lived up to the expectation, though next time I'd tell them to leave out the tri-colour sweet peppers and mix up the truffle sauce instead of having it dallop at the top! I think the chef was trying to liven up the dish with the colours of the peppers, but mushroom risotto should remain that dull dark and beige colour!
Next came the duck breast with pan fried Foie Gras- my cousin found the duck a bit too tough, while I thought it was ok, the Foie Gras was a bit on the runny side though but nevertheless still yummy! The main was served with a selection of grilled vegetables (peppers, eggplants) and some deep fried spicy potato wedges (my fave!)!
Overall the dinner was great, wonderful service, total of 2 wait staff taking turns waiting the 3 tables and standing outside trying to grab business! Non-stop at re-filling water without being told! Bought out the cake at the perfect moment! We even got a free polaroid with "Henry's Kitchen" on the bottom!
Definitely worth the value for a nice meal along with tentative service, however what I dont understand is their "casual" lunch sets (which is nothing compared to the nice dinner we just had) as well as the extra cost for switching cold drinks in the set meals(+$3 for cold drinks, +$8 for 'special drinks') which seems to be style that belongs to local HK Tea Cafes instead of a nice restaurant like this! Whats a couple of dollars when customers just want to have a nice lunch/dinner?
