It was my first time being at the Dog House, and it was honestly the worst experience at a bar I've ever had in my 31 years of existence. Feb 23, 2014 was the night (in HK) of Men's Gold Medal Ice Hockey game between Canada and Sweden from 8:00PM onwards, and a few friends of mine decided to catch the game at The Dog House in Wanchai. At 8:20pm, everyone in my party of 4 has finally arrived and we placed an order of 4 items: buffalo wings, nachos, ham & pineapple pizza & meat lover pizza. The
At 8:20pm, everyone in my party of 4 has finally arrived and we placed an order of 4 items: buffalo wings, nachos, ham & pineapple pizza & meat lover pizza. The bill came out to be $453.00 (excluding tip). Even though the hockey game had started at 8:00PM, and tons of people were filing out of the bar because of the technical issues th Dog House had, we patiently waited for the streaming system to get set up. We made the wrong decision.
At 8:50pm, no food has arrived. I made my first inquiry regarding our order -- except the girl who took our order is "on break". No one could confirm our order has been placed even though I had paid the $453 PLUS tip. At this point, the live streaming of the game is still shaky and eventually dropped off entirely.
At 9:15pm, I finally couldn't take it anymore and demanded for our food. Thankfully, the part-time bartender (bless his soul) confirmed that the order was never placed, and he personally took on the responsibilty to put through our order. Our food finally arrived at 9:35pm (1hr 15mins later -- at a freaking bar!!!) -- except for our chicken wings because "the kitchen has run out". The inventory wouldn't have run out if the order was properly placed in the first place!
At that point, we have given up on watching the game, because the streaming quality was just too unbearably bad. If it weren't for the paid food, we would've left to go to another bar. Lesson learned on my part, and I shall never pay in a bar until my order has been fulfilled. I will also NEVER go to The Dog House EVER AGAIN. Especially since the food was mediocre:
Buffalo wings -- we saw them got served to our nearby tables. They looked really tasty and definitely smelled amazing. But because of our original waitress' mismanagement, we never got a chance to taste them.
Nachos -- it is normally a very standard bar food item, but I don't understand why Doritos chips were used as the basis of this dish at The Dog House. The signature Doritos powder was so overwhelming that no amount of melted cheese, guacamole and fresh cream was enough to balance out the saltiness. I'm no nacho-nazi, but the Doritos move definitely killed the dish for me.
Both pizzas -- they were the thin-crust kind, and tasted mediocre. The crust could've been "crustier", toppings were neither generous nor too little, but they didn't taste home-made to me. I give them "average" for bar food-quality-pizzas.
Oh and be forewarned, the waitress (unfortunately I didn't get her name), who took my order and "left to take a break" without placing it, is apparently elected to be the new General Manager for The Dog House Wanchai. She never came to apologize in person.
